If you ask the children themselves, they will always tell you to get the one their friends have, but is that really the right choice. Read on as I break down each console.

There are three major players on the gaming console front, they are Xbox 360 from Microsoft, Playstation 3 from Sony and the Wii from Nintendo. The reason that I list the company names along with the consoles is that the target audience seems to have as much to do with the companies behind the consoles as the capability of the consoles themselves.

First, how about a little history lesson. In the early 80's, Nintendo was king. Their major competition in the gaming console industry was Sega, Sega dropped out of contention a couple of years ago and decided to be primarily a software company (you remember Sonic, don't you?). Nintendo has given us the original 8 bit NES, the Super NES (16 bit), the Nintendo 64, the Gamecube and now it's latest offering the Nintendo Wii. All of Nintendo's systems were extremely successful, except for the Gamecube. The Gamecube did not use standard size DVD's, but used the DVD format. The Nintendo Wii is the current offering and it's defining feature is it's unique wireless controller.
I'll admit it, although I have a soft spot for the Nintendo Wii, our family also has an Xbox 360. This was mostly due to the blockbuster XBox 360 exclusive Halo 3. Here is a list of top XBox 360 games which would make excellent Christmas gift ideas.

Last year was all about which console to buy and while there are probably still a lot of people deciding between Wii, XBox 360 and Playstation 3, I believe that Christmas 2007 is all about the games. Here are my top picks for the Xbox 360

Xbox 360 Games for the whole family

Forza Motorsport 2

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock

Xbox 360 games for adults/older teens

Halo 3

Gears of War

The Orange Box

BioShock

And a special thanks to Twinkle Claus for mentioning the Xbox 360 Holiday Bundle (below), great for kids and a great deal, $29.99 for all three games! ( Forza 2, Open Season and Cars). I just may take that tip myself and order a copy for the kiddies for Christmas morning.

Come back all Christmas season for our best Christmas Gift Ideas
Coming up with the best Christmas gift ideas isn't easy, luckily almost every kid on the planet likes video games. The nice thing about this year is that Nintendo actually has a system that kids and parents will enjoy. I've played on our Nintendo Wii with everyone from my seven year old daughter to my 79 year old parents. You had to see the kids laughing when my Mom was trying to use the Wii controller, but my parents had an amazing time. The Nintendo Wii was last years best Christmas gift idea (if you could get one), Nintendo Wii games top this years list.
Jack is back and the kids are all revved up to get the latest Pirates of the Carribean toys. "At Worlds End" is the third installment in the Pirates series and of course it introduces a bunch of new characters (and toys). I was at Toys R Us last week and noticed that there were 3 ships and a huge Black Pearl. Where was this stuff when I was a kid?

Question; why don't they make any of these "Pirates of the Carribean" ships that actually float? They would be great for in the pool, hot tub or bath. Maybe they do exist and I just haven't found them yet.
It's been a year since Cars hit the theatres and my kids still can't get enough of Lightning McQeen and the gang. In fact, Disney is releasing new die cast cars all the time. The latest I've seen is Lighning with his tongue hanging out and the Dinoco helicopter. I expect these Disney die cast cars to be popular with kids for quite some time. They also make great collector items for when the kids get older.
